On the road with Tom Johnson

We speak to our Area Sales Manager in Scotland, Tom, about his favourite things about his "patch" and what he loves about Victory.

How did you end up in the holiday home industry?

I’ve always loved the great outdoors and Great British staycations, so it seemed only natural that I chose a career that involved doing what I enjoy. I started in the holiday home industry six years ago and have been building my knowledge and skillsets ever since, making sure customer satisfaction and building the best relationships is my priority. I’m a Barnsley lad by birth but I’ve been living and working in bonnie Scotland for a few years.

What brought you to Victory?

Looking from the outside in, I’ve always been impressed by Victory.  They’re forward-thinking, and not afraid of challenging the norm within the industry and it was these things that sparked my interest in joining the company. I’m really looking forward to what’s to come.

Describe your role in a nutshell…

I’m responsible for looking after our fantastic park operators in and around Scotland and developing relationships with new or evolving parks in that patch. I’m mainly on the road, making sure they have all the information they need to sell our homes and lodges. I’m their main point of contact in Scotland and I really enjoy helping them in every way I can.

What are you most looking forward to in your new role?

I’m looking forward to getting out and about, meeting with customers, old and new, and creating long-lasting relationships across Scotland. I’m also really looking forward to working with my fellow teammates at Victory, and to be part of a real disruptive force in the industry.

What’s your favourite thing about Scotland?

It has to be the people and their naturally friendly demeanour. Also, I really do believe Scotland provides some of the best scenery in Europe and if not, the world! It’s a must visit for anyone looking to have a staycation somewhere new – I couldn’t recommend it highly enough.

Where would you recommend in Scotland to visit while on holiday?

Firstly, the west coast of Scotland – it’s beautiful wherever you look and would be best suited for the spirited ramblers among us. Fife and Ayrshire have some stunning beaches and with it many activities, shops and restaurants which would entertain the whole family. I can’t not mention the Dumfriesshire coastline though – it’s an undiscovered jewel within the Scottish borders that is not visited by many tourists, and it would be my ‘go to’ destination if I wanted a real retreat.

What’s been your most memorable achievement in life?

It would have to be the birth of my wonderful daughter – she’s now seven but it only seems like yesterday she was born.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

I grew up being a believer of ‘do what you say you’re going to do’ and it’s a mentality I’ve always kept throughout my personal and working life – I like to think it helps both me and my customers.

If you could have dinner with anyone, past or present, who would it be and why?

For me it would have to be David Attenborough – I’ve always had a passion for the great outdoors, and I’d love to hear about his life and some of the many interesting stories from the Champion of Earth himself.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love camping and I spend a lot of my weekends and holidays camping with my daughter all over the UK. I’m also an avid player of Snooker and I enjoy the competition between friends and in tournaments. Despite living in Scotland, I’m a lifelong fan of Coventry City due to my Midlands family heritage, and I look forward to watching them get promoted to the Premier League this year…
